By Brian Tunney Kiddie City. A parking lot dubbed that for the adjacent toy store--which has now become a T.J. Maxx--has been an integral part of the New Jersey flatland scene since the late 80's when it was frequented by superhero NJ locals such as Jay Jones, Craig LePage, Mark Teo, and Sean Leslie. Nowadays Jay Jones still rides there from time to time, but a new breed of flatland talent has emerged to call this parking lot home, including Adam Guild, Mike Wilson, Rodney Morweiser, Erin Dinato, and me.
In addition, we are visited by Frenchman turn Pennsylvania local Lionel Cardoso, and his friends Christophe, Sebastian, and Stephan, who also happen to be French. I don't know how they kiss, but I do know that they blow minds on flatland.
On a good night, there are usually about 10 people riding at Kiddie City. The originality of the riders is phenomenal, and the atmosphere is totally friendly and competition-free. Even the security guard is cool, but don't bring your girlfriend 'cause he's real hard up and hits on every girl he sees. This parking lot, a simple piece of concrete, is giving New Jersey a strong flatland scene and a sense of that "riding will never die" feeling. So if you're ever in NJ and ride ground, drop me a line at (908)247-9179. If that doesn't work, call Cyclecraft Bike Shop at (908)968-1372 and ask for Rodney. And if that doesn't work, just go to Six Flags Great Adventure, have fun, and don't hold any grudges. |
