South Shore Posse

The South Shore area of Massachusetts has a pretty darn good riding scene. In a time when it's good luck having someone else to ride with who lives within a half hour, this place is pretty rare. Among those in the Posse are John Maul (from Halifax), Mike Rotondo (Middleboro), Paul O'Hearn (Halifax), Tony Long (Carver), Rich Daugirda (Brockton), Rick MacDonald (Bridgewater), Frank Benevides (Halifax) and Jeff Johnson (Bridgewater, who I forgot about in Wire #8--sorry again, Jeff!).

Mike Rotondo, superman.

John Maul, can-can toothpick.

The scene is pretty much held together by John Maul's backyard mini ramp. John now has a brand new ramp--bigger, smoother and with a spine--which will pick up where the "bunny ramp" left off. And, as a result of all this, most of these guys are mini ramp riders--damn good ones, too. The above names is a pretty thorough list of the best mini ramp, street, and dirt riders in New England. As far as flatland goes, a couple started off riding flat, but Rick is the only one I'd consider a "true" flatlander. But don't let that stereotype fool you: Paul and John are great ground riders in their own right.

When they're not riding, they're busy with other stuff: all work and/or go to school, John and Paul both do 'zines, and Rick runs Figure Four records. A few other things worth mentioning about the South Shore Posse: most of them ride Standards, some have an inordinate amount of body piercings and tattoos (Rich recently added his penis to his list of mutilations...there's something wrong with that boy), and they're all some of the nicest riders in the northeast. Well, except that Rich is sometimes mean to flatlanders.
