Time Machine
safety tips and stupidity from Brittania & GT
I recently moved to a new apartment, and while unpacking I came across a booklet I picked up at a GT/Brittania trick show back in 1986. (For the record, Brittania is/was a clothing company, and the riders were Josh White & Dino DeLuca.) Even then I thought that the contents of the booklet were pretty stupid, but now — 12 years later — it really shines as a legitimate embarassment.

I've transcribed the contents of the booklet below and on the following pages (plus I've thrown in some 1986-87 tour photos & video for the hell of it). You'll notice that whoever wrote it had an aversion to adding — or should I say, addin' — g's to the end of words. Most of it is the usual "wear your safety gear" stuff, but the best (or, at least, most entertaining) part has to be the BMX-English Dictionary, which is made up mostly of words that nobody has ever used.

You younger riders (who have been riding for less than 7 years or so) will get a glimpse at how gay things used to be. You old-timers will be entertained and embarassed by this trip down memory lane. And if you're a non-rider, keep in mind that things were different back then...MUCH different. (And remember: I didn't write any of this!)

BRITTANIA SAFETY TIPS

Whether you're jammin' on ramps, cookin' in skateparks, blastin' on weekends or taking on flatland stylin', all you BMX'ers have to know a thing or two about safety. Brittania has prepared this booklet as part of its 1986 Brittania Freestyle: The GT Tour. Brittania wants to show you guys and gals some real cool freestylin' tricks and teach you the safe way to enjoy the raddest sport of the '80s.
