What bands or types of music are you listening to today?
Today? You mean like modern bands?
Yeah.
Well, I don't know that I go and replace everything that I'm listening to every six months. I have my records, I have my CDs and maybe once or twice a year I might go get another pile of them, if that often. I don't listen to music the same way that say "rock journalists" do. I don't listen to things in chronological order.
Do you have any favorite modern bands?
Well, I can mention a couple bands that I've probably mentioned more than once in interviews, so they're kinda like, boring answers. But I've always liked They Might Be Giants, I've always liked The Reverend Horton Heat. And...I always get stumped when I get asked this question, I know there are others but I always forget who to mention. Let me think a minute here... (thinks) Beck is pretty good. Yeah, I like Beck.
What are some things that you haven't accomplished yet that you'd like to accomplish?
I'd like to release more then one record in a year, I haven't pulled that off yet. I'd like to do some stuff involving orchestras, but that's kind of expensive.
What kind of stuff involving orchestras?
Like a treatment of a song for orchestra as part of an instrumentation.
I think you'd probably do better job than Elvis Costello did.

You have no desire to climb Everest or anything?
No. (laughs)
What's the furthest thing from music that you enjoy doing?
The furthest? I don't know, I don't know what's far from music.
Well, I mean...Do you play tennis?
No. (laughs)
What inspires you? And are they the same things that have always inspired you?
Yeah, you know, it's the same old stew; books, movies, T.V. shows, life in general.
Do you read a lot?
Not a lot.
Who are some of your favorite writers?
I like Kim Stanley Robinson.
Do you have anything else that you'd like to say on your own behalf?
No, I guess not.
