john maul
E veryone in New England knows who John Maul is. Actually, there's a chance that many riders outside NE know him, too: He's one of the northeast's top mini ramp riders; he's held several contests — Maul's Brawls — on his backyard ramp; he does Chain Gang 'zine; and his dad owns the best bike shop in New England (and possibly the world).

If you're not familiar with John, this interview may or may not help you get to know him better. You see, rather than do the usual rider interview questions, I found an interview on the Web with Michael Jordan and asked John those questions. (It seemed like a good idea at the time...) Strangely, some of the questions made sense...of course, some didn't. See for yourself:

Watching you this preseason, it almost seems like it's a repeat of just a few years ago. You look like you're in such great shape. Where are you at right now, physically, mentally and all the above?
(laughs) Um, that requires some thought... (in a serious voice) Well Kieran... (laughter) Okay, physically I've been feeling out of shape because I haven't ridden in a while. But mentally I'm feeling pretty good, I'm prepared to ride. We're going to Florida this winter, we're flying out and doing a lot of riding.

Who's "we" and where do you go?
Me and Rich Daugirda got an apartment just outside of Orlando, it's like 5 minutes away from a skatepark.

Going to be working down there?
Hell no.

Just riding and going to Disney World?
Yeah. Actually we snuck into Disney World last time we were down there, so we might try to do that again this year.
