The Brunching Shuttlecocks

The Brunching Shuttlecocks is a site that serves up "comedy, pure and simple as a hammer to the forebrain". It's basically a humor site made up of Ratings (where everyday items are graded), Toys (which are online semi-games), The Self-Made Critic (sarcastic movie reviews), and some other stuff. Sounds simple, but it's good...not to mention updated on a pretty regular basis.

The Toys are pointless but fun diversions. Some are quizzes you take, and it tells you how many you got correct; these include:

• Norse Code: you pick which of three sayings is an actual Swedish saying, translated into English.
• Porn Star or My Little Pony?: you decide whether "Cherry Treats", "Honey Rose", "Heart Throb", and others are names of a porn star or My Little Pony. (Along the same lines are Christian Heavy Metal Band or Star Trek Episode? and Elvis Movie or Cocktail?)

Other Toys are checkbox lists -- you check off whether something applies to you, and it calculates the answer to such questions as Are You God? and Are You a One-Hit Wonder?. Plus there are other great things like the The Alanis Morissette Lyric Generator and the Roshambo Rampage (a rock-paper-scissors game conducted via email).

All this is great, but my favorite is the Ratings. Everyday (and not so everyday) items are reviewed, compared, and given a grade (A-F). It's hard to describe them, but they're damn funny. Be sure to check out Atari 2600 Games, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Flavors, Star Wars Villains...there are so many I haven't gotten through them all yet. This is a great time-killing site.
