N.C. Flair
45 minutes
N.C. Flair is a pretty long video made up of about half local riding ("local" being North Carolina, of course) and half ESPN contest footage. Overall it's a good video, but let me get my criticisms out of the way first: With a video this length, there's bound to be some stuff that might be okay to watch once, but you're gonna want to fast-forward it each time afterwards; here you have Dave Mirra playing video games, and a section with just people driving to contests while "On the Road Again" plays. Most of the music was pretty lame (Alice in Chains, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, "Eye of the Tiger", Puff Daddy?), but that's just my opinion (some people think eWire's music coverage sucks). And horny boys will really dig NC girls lifting up their shirts, but not me.
But the riding is the meat of this video, and it's good stuff. It's pretty well edited, although there's sometimes an overkill of special effects. You've probably seen most of the ESPN footage already (either on TV or other videos), but it's good stuff and worth a second look. Luckily, this isn't one of those videos that is JUST already-seen contest footage; there's a lot of local stuff, too, with sections showcasing the talents of Bryan Huffman, Steve Nowak, Rob Compton, and Mike Laird, among others. There's also a Dave Mirra section near the end of the video; it's a pretty long section, but if anyone has enough tricks to warrant such a section, it's Dave. There's a good balance of flatland, ramps (mini and vert), and jumping (more box jumping than trails), plus the crash at the very end of the video is one of the most insane things I've ever seen...
